BUENOS
AIRES NIGHTLIFE
Buenos Aires is an important metropolis, where
the people have always lived an intense nocturnal activity. From
the famous “belle époque” when tango success
started, the porteños have always loved nightlife and they
show enough energy to enjoy it. If you are looking for entertainment,
Buenos Aires is the city you must choose, since it offers a huge
variety of places to spend a splendid night out.
The variety of offers goes from the famous Teatro Colon, the Opera
house, to the oldest and simple tango salons, from the typical porteño
café to the most fashionable discos.
Evenings in Buenos Aires normally start around 8 p.m. It is not
unusual to see people at that time, drinking a “copetin”
(typical drink with special dressing like cheese, jam, olives, etc.)
in some of the bars and pubs, before dinner or going to the cinema.
Buenos Aires has more than 200 movies, showing the last international
and national films. The theaters, most of them along the Corrientes
Avenue, the street that never sleeps according to popular myths,
are also numerous. Some of them maintain the original style, others
more modern, but all of them offering a very high quality spectacles.
Whatever you are trying to see in the Buenos Aires theaters, be
sure it will be “on stage”.
Eating and dancing are the favorite activities for porteños;
consequently, the offer of restaurants and discos is very large.
At present the most fashionable areas to find a trendy restaurant
or the better discos are: Las Cañitas, Puerto Madero, Palermo
Viejo, Recoleta and Costanera. However, excellent restaurants and
“parrillas” (grills) are found in all neighborhoods
of the city.
Another nocturnal and special attraction for the visitors of Buenos
Aires and its inhabitants alike is the tango. Nowadays, the most
popular argentine music is a big phenomena and it is danced in every
little space of the city,. Tango lessons are a “must”
for many young and old people and there are specific Tango clubs,
salons or neighborhood’s centers where fans go to dance and
practice. Even in the open air, in San Telmo or Recoleta streets
the tango is danced by professionals and amateurs as well and it
is admired by the strollers.
The aged and typical “bars porteños” that maintained
their ancient style are now protected as “national monuments”.
Some of them deserve a drink or a coffee to enjoy the special atmosphere
inside and to observe the behavior and habits of the night people.
Apart from all mentioned possibilities, Buenos Aires has the modern
and fashion “thematic bars” where you can play snooker,
billiards, and table games. Cybercafes, Irish pubs, soccer bars,
tango and jazz bars and even literary bars can be added to this
long list of amenities. Soccer and tennis tournaments, as well as
other sports, often take place after 8 or 9 p.m. when working hours
are over, followed by a long dinner.
Another important attraction is the Casino of the City of Buenos
Aires. It is open 24 hours, in a Mississippi style boat, nearby
the newest and trendiest area, Puerto Madero.
