Apartments for Tourists

Last year four million tourists visited Argentina. The tourism industry is booming and is fast becoming one of the biggest money spinners for the Argentine government. But it’s not just the government that is benefiting from this influx of tourists, property developers are also cashing in.

Tourists who visit Buenos Aires are no longer satisfied with staying in a hotel or hostel, they expect more from accommodation in Argentina. Instead, many tourists are choosing to rent apartments during their visit to the tango and steak capital of the world. So now a great number of property owners are dedicating themselves to this new tourist trend. The most popular neighbourhoods for tourists in Buenos Aires are: Recoleta, Plaza San Martin, Puerto Madero, downtown, San Telmo, Las Cañitas and Belgrano. These are all attractive to tourists for their central locations and close proximity to tourist attractions and transport links. San Telmo, for example, is traditionally associated with tango and there is a popular antique market held here every Sunday.

The trend for renting an apartment in Buenos Aires has become so popular because tourists prefer the intimate and more genuine nature of renting their own little patch of Buenos Aires for a week or so. By renting an apartment, tourists can feel they are really experiencing life in the city, something that you do not get staying in a hotel or hostel. The most sought after types of property for temporary tourist rents are medium-sized apartments that face onto the street and that have pools and other leisure facilities. The big responsibility with renting to tourists temporarily is that landlords have to fully furnish and equip their property to a very high standard, often having to reach four or five star standard. Tourists favor apartments that are fashionably and thoughtfully decorated, but that also have a dishwashing machine, cable television, DVD player and broadband internet. Property owners cannot ask for a guarantee, as they would if renting to permanent residents, which makes this type of arrangement a little more risky. However, landlords can protect themselves with a simpler temporary contract and by including an itinerary of the apartment’s contents, for example.

Since the devaluation of the Argentine peso, this country has become an increasingly popular choice for holiday makers. Tourists are coming from far and wide to experience a little of Buenos Aires life and renting an apartment is the best way to do this.
